Masterbatch manufacturing of Vietnam has experienced a remarkable development in recent years
Ranked 3rd after telecom and textile industry in the period of 2010 – 2017, plastic industry is a high growth industry of Vietnam with growth rate of 16-18% per year. The growth of plastic industry is believed to strongly influence the development of masterbatch manufacturing.
The growth rate is expected to be even stronger in the coming years thanks to Free Trade Agreements such as EVFTA, CPTPP and Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), etc. When these agreements officially take effect, it also means that there will be more export opportunities opened for Vietnamese masterbatch businesses, the “footprint” of Vietnamese plastic industry in the world’s map will have more chance to spread out.
Masterbatch manufacturing – Advantages and disadvantages in the global economy
However, the plastics industry of Vietnam in recent years has only prospered in the plastic processing sector because masterbatch manufacturing companies have to outsource 80% of the input materials. This is in contrast to the biggest advantage of Vietnam in the production of filler masterbatch – a plastic additive in granule form which is the main material in the production of plastic goods that we have beneficial ownership of large limestone resources in the Northern and Central provinces of Vietnam. Even if we compare us with the two major masterbatch manufacturing markets of the world which are China and India, Vietnam still has an advantage from owning the better and more stable quality of limestone material in addition with cheaper labor costs.
